ESIC REGISTRATION & RETURNS

Employee State Insurance Corporation or ESIC is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme which provides medical benefit, sickness benefit, funeral expenses, free supply of physical aids etc. to the employees and their family. Entities that have 10 or more employees, drawing the wages of up to Rs.21,000 a month are required to be registered under ESIC Act.

Entities that need ESIC Registration:

  The following are the type of entities that has to obtain ESIC Registration as  per the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948: 

• Shops
• Cinemas
• Newspaper Establishments
• Hotels or restaurants providing services and not carrying out any manufacturing activities
• Medical Institutions
• Educational Institutions (Private)
• Roadside Motor Transport Establishments 

Documents required for ESIC Registration

• A registration certificate obtained either under the:
• Factories Act 
• Shops and Establishment Act 
• Certificate of Registration in case of Company, and Partnership deed in case of a Partnership 
• Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association of the Company 
• A list of all the employees working in the Establishment
• PAN Card of the Business Entity as well as all the Employees working under the entity 
• The compensation details of all the employees
• A cancelled cheque of the Bank Account of the Company 
• List of Directors of the Company
• List of the Shareholders of the Company
• Register containing the attendance of the employees 
• Details about the family of employee are also needed  

Registration Process: 

• Form Filling: The ESIC registration form is filled completely and the necessary documents are submitted.
• Verification: All details provided are cross-checked to ensure there are no errors or omissions made.
• Submission: The ESIC application along with other legal paperwork is submitted on ESIC portal.
• The government reviews the application and processes registration once granted, allots 17 digit identification number known as the Code number is provided.

Due Dates For ESIC: ESIC Returns are to be filed till 15th of next month.
